SceneWhy the flat lay is the right starting point
It requires no model, no studio and no sample shipped anywhere: the piece on a clean surface, lit evenly, photographed from above. Most sellers already have one for every product before anything else exists.
What it cannot do is show fit. A buyer looking at a flat lay is guessing at how a garment falls, and a guess is where a return starts.
What you add to it
A close-up wherever the flat lay is too low-resolution to read a detail — a waistband, a fabric weave, a fastening. These are not extra work so much as insurance: whatever a buyer would ask about needs to be legible somewhere in what you upload.
Then a reference picture of the kind of shot you want, and optionally a model if you want a specific person wearing it. The reference is the container that gets kept; your garment is the content that gets placed inside.
One submission, the whole set
A product needs several pictures, not one. Supply a reference for each kind of shot you want and a single submission returns them together, coordinated — front, back, a different pose, a different setting.
Frequently asked questions
Can one flat lay photo be enough?
It is enough to start, but a single overhead frame rarely shows a back, a lining or a fastening. Add whatever angles and close-ups a buyer would ask about — anything not legible in what you upload cannot be reproduced faithfully in what comes back.
Does the flat lay have to be professionally shot?
No. Even lighting and enough resolution to read the fabric are what matter. Photographs taken on a table with a phone are routinely enough.
Can I get a ghost mannequin shot from a flat lay too?
Yes. Supply a ghost mannequin picture as the reference instead of an on-model one, and the same garment photos return the hollow-body version.
Can I submit my whole catalogue at once?
No. One submission covers one product and returns the full set of shots you supplied references for. Each product is filled in separately.
